INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Occupational safety, energy efficiency, health protection, quality and environmental protection are of equal importance to the economic, technical and social concerns of our company.
We develop, produce and supply high-speed steels, tool steels and special materials worldwide to provide optimum solutions for customers. Stable processes with predictable results are our strength and the pillar of our system. We are constantly working to improve our products and processes. For many years, we have been carrying out targeted activities to increase energy and resource efficiency, to improve environmental protection and to offer our employees the best possible health protection with maximum occupational safety.
Our integrated management system is certified to ISO 9001, EN / AS 9100, TS 16949, ISO 50001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and accredited to ISO 17020 & ISO 17025. In addition, we hold a number of approvals from authorities and customers, such as Airbus, Boeing, Rolls Royce, BAE-Systems, GE Transportation Aviation or Pratt & Whitney Aircraft.

Stable processes with predictable results are our strength and the pillar of our system. We are constantly working to improve our products and processes. Always focusing on the optimum for our customers, employees, suppliers and the environment.

Occupational safety has long been a high priority at voestalpine BÖHLER Edelstahl, From 2011 to 2020 Böhler was BS OHSAS 18001 certified, since 2020 according to EN ISO 45001. Many different measures help to advance occupational safety and prevent accidents. E.G.

  • EH&S Toolbox (database) for web-based archiving of walk-throughs, workplace audits, instructions, safety talks, near misses (near accidents), unsafe conditions, accident analyses and measures management.
  • Learning from accidents (One Pager)
  • H&S trainings: Behavior Based Safety (bbs), Crane Refresher, First Aid, PPE against falls,…
  • voestalpine Safety Days

With a wide variety of programs and measures (e.g.: Age(n)-appropriate career paths, Böhler night-shift soup, moving break), we promote the health and ongoing performance of our employees. Special attention is paid to the 5 pillars of health.

  • Exercise
  • Nutrition
  • Ergonomics
  • Prevention
  • Work/life balance

In addition to ensuring the most modern production standards, today additional topics are in the foreground in the area of environmental protection. The conservation of resources and the sensitive handling of soil and water as well as optimized recycling are, just like climate protection, topics which, due to their importance, are a manifest part of the way voestalpine BÖHLER Edelstahl works.
For us, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION means increasing energy and resource efficiency, as well as improving environmental protection in general.
Our goal of saving 2% of energy annually through energy efficiency measures has already prevented 45,000 tons of CO2 emissions in the period 2014-2021.

Increasing energy efficiency makes a significant contribution to our sustainability-strategy and to achieving CO2 neutrality. 235 million kilowatt hours of energy were saved in the period 2013-2021 through energy efficiency measures. This means that voestalpine BÖHLER Edelstahl could mathematically supply 23,000 Austrian households with energy for a year.

  • Successfully certified energy management system under ISO 50001 since 2013
  • Annual savings of over 20 GWh in the form of energy-saving measures
  • Permanent reduction of CO2 emissions by converting to innovative combustion technologies (up to 50% savings in natural gas consumption)
  • Over 500 households supplied with waste heat from production processes

Conflict Minerals

We do not accept delivery of raw materials that are designated as Conflict Minerals under the existing Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Section 1502. Certificate of Origin and full Certificate of Analysis from the producer (smelter) is required with the delivery of ferrotungsten or tungsten metal.
All supplies of ferrotungsten or tungsten metal must comply with the requirements of the EU Conflict Minerals Regulations (EU)2017/821.

For further information, please visit https://www.voestalpine.com/group/en/group/environment/conflictminerals/

Reach

All substances in the products supplied to our customers have been successfully pre-registered. In addition, all substances that we need for our production processes and that have to be imported into the EU have been pre-registered. This ensures delivery security for our customers.

REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals. Important goals of the EU chemicals policy (Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006) are the improved protection of human health and the environment from potential substance risks. In future, companies may only manufacture chemical substances or import them into the EU and place them on the market if they have proven that the substances are safe for humans and the environment. For this purpose, manufacturers or importers must have sufficient data on substance properties (physico-chemical properties, properties that pose a risk to health, behaviour in the environment) and carry out a safety assessment for the substance applications.

SUBSTANCES OF VERY HIGH CONCERN (SVHC)

We are aware of the list of substances of very high concern and keep ourselves informed about the proposals of the Member States for the inclusion of further candidates. With the statement we confirm that none of our substances (as such or in preparations or articles) are mentioned in the published candidate list.

ROHS

In accordance with EU Directive 2011/65/EC “RoHS II – Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment”, we as a supplier guarantee the absence of certain hazardous substances in our products.

For further information, please visit https://www.voestalpine.com/group/en/group/environment/rohs/

RADIOACTIVITY

The maximum permissible activity concentrations of radionuclides in various materials are regulated by the Austrian Radiation Protection Act and the associated ordinances. At the international level, the IAEA Safety Guide RS G 1.7 specifies radiological criteria for long-lived radionuclides in commercial goods and commodities and also states limits for all relevant radionuclides.
We comply with these legally defined limits for our products, for which we have obligated our suppliers in our purchasing conditions to deliver only raw materials and input materials “free of radioactivity”. Seamless incoming inspections of scrap and alloy materials are carried out with the help of portal monitors for trucks and trains.

All materials melted at voestalpine BÖHLER Edelstahl are subjected to a gamma activity measurement. If a product manufactured by us were actually to be found to be radioactive during this seamless testing, organisational measures ensure that it is not delivered to the customer.
