The first step towards quality - melting

Melt metallurgy was and is BÖHLER’s domain. Alongside conventional melting technologies, BÖHLER also has a special melting plant – unique in its combination of capabilities. Melting and remelting under vacuum (VIM/VAR) and a range of ESR and pressure – ESR facilities enable the production of materials with a high metallurgical degree of purity.

BÖHLER is also a world leader in powder metallurgy. High performance powder metallurgical materials with a homogenous carbide microstructure are our answer to the ever increasing demands made of our materials.  Metallurgical knowledge forms the basis for effective solutions to problems. In order to continue to meet these quality requirements, BÖHLER built the world’s most modern PM production pant.

Forming á la carte.

Forming is a further decisive production step. Modern computer-controlled rolling mills for round and square steel bar and wire are the heart of Böhler’s rolling technology. Their high precision and flexibility are appreciated by customers world-wide.  Forging is another important process. A 5200 t press with 2 manipulators for piece weights of up to 30 t and the powerful long forging machine for steel bar and open die forged parts up to 450mm in diameter form the heart of our forging technology.

  

Heat treatment

Before the material is delivered it undergoes a quality heat treatment to achieve the exactly defined properties required. This process takes place in fully automatic, computer-controlled heat treatment furnaces. The machining of forged parts rounds off our sales program. The majority of parts machined are for the power generation industry, offshore industry and turbine manufacture..

The finish is the decisive factor

The many machining possibilities for forged and rolled steel bar offer customers additional advantages. The steel bar undergoes a quality heat treatment and is finished, machined and tested according to the customer specification and internal guidelines for each grade.BÖHLER also fulfils all surface finish requests  Round steel bar can be supplied peeled, peeled and polished, band ground or turned; with machined ends on request.  Flat steel bar is similarly supplied surface machined or ground.  Larger flats and blocks are sawn. Round or flat precision drawn wire is also available in highly alloyed materials for bi-metallic saw blades or for piston rings.
