The highest permissible activity concentrations of radionuclides in various materials are laid down by the Austrian law on radiation protection (Österreichisches Strahlenschutzgesetz) and its corresponding ordinances. On an international level the IAEA SafetyGuide RS‑G‑1.7 defines radiological criteria for long lived radionuclides in commodities and gives values of activity concentration covering all relevant radionuclides.
Our products conform to the limits set by law. For this reason our suppliers are also obligated by our terms of purchase to deliver only raw and pre-materials according to above mentioned criteria.
Checks of all incoming scrap and alloy materials are carried out using gate monitoring systems for both road and rail transport.
All materials melted at Bohler Edelstahl are tested for gamma activity. Organisational measures are in place which ensure that should a product produced by us be found to be radioactive, the material would not be delivered to a customer.
The measurement technology at our disposal allows testing for the Co-60 radionuclide to an activity concentration well below the 0,1 Bq/g limit set by law and by the IAEA RS‑G‑1.7.
